There are two main reasons why I am so passionate about helping caregivers find and plug their mental energy leaks.

You’ve probably already heard me mention reason one: It’s because when you plug your mental energy leaks you retain more energy that you can use to stay connected to yourself and your goals while you give care.

Because it’s impossible to “put your life on hold” to take care of someone. These days are your life. This IS your life and I want you to be able to stay involved with it to some degree while you give care.

The second reason I am focused on helping you find and plug your mental energy leaks is so that you have enough energy to actually give care over a long haul…

…which means having enough energy to remain empathetic to the person you are caring for.

…and enough energy to remain resilient within the multitude of challenges that you continually have to face as a caregiver.

…and enough energy to self-regulate – which means to manage your own emotions and behavior in a responsible way.

Empathy, resilience, and self-regulation require a LOT of energy.

When you’ve been running on empty for a while, you eventually become what I call a Robot Caregiver – going through the motions in a brittle, emotionally closed-down sort of way.

Your thoughts (the stories you tell yourself) are what create your mental energy leaks – which is great news because that means you have the power to start shifting your thoughts and plugging those leaks and refilling your energy tanks.
